Every night in Chicago, thousands of people eat a perfectly fine dinner at a perfectly forgettable restaurant. Then there's the table that watched their waiter climb onto the counter mid-song, got roasted for ordering a burger "well done," and left arguing about whether that was the best dinner of the trip. That table was at Ed Debevic's.

We're Chicago's original sass-serving retro diner, in Streeterville at 159 E Ohio St — a block and a half off the Magnificent Mile, on the edge of River North. Since 1984, dinner here has come with a show: our servers are actors, and the insults, dance numbers and counter-top performances are all part of the meal. You bring the appetite; we bring the attitude.

All the diner greats, done the Ed's way: burgers that need two hands, the Outrageous Fries, Ed's Mom's Meatloaf (she's very proud), Chicago-style hot dogs, and hand-spun shakes and malts for dessert — or the World's Smallest Sundae, if you want dessert and a punchline.
